Have a great summer! Watch the McKinley homepage over the summer for important announcements about the upcoming school year.
Safety

McKinley School has the responsibility to be appropriately equipped and prepared to house students in the event that conditions prevent parents from getting to the school to pick-up their loved ones. Working in partnership, McKinley Administration and McKinley PTA have purchased food, water, emergency blankets, and flashlights with batteries. These items will be monitored and refreshed regularly to ensure appropriate quantities.

All McKinley families are asked to provide their student(s) with “comfort kits” to help ease the anxiety of being separated from their loved ones. An informational fl yer about the comfort kits can be downloaded below:

Fire and Emergency Drills
Each month during the year, we will have a fire drill. Your teachers will instruct you in the proper drill procedure.

The fire alarm bell is a series of short rings. At that signal, each student will:
  1. If in the classroom or locker room, quietly follow the directions given by the teacher and proceed to the designated area.
  2. Line up one behind the other (not in clusters). Facing forward
  3. ABSOLUTELY NO TALKING OR PLAYING
  4. If on the grounds, proceed QUIETLY to the playground area assigned to your homeroom.
  5. Always move quickly, in an orderly manner without talking or running.
Earthquake drills are held four times during the school year. When the alert is given, students and staff are to follow the drop drill. When the earthquake or emergency has ended, the fire drill procedures will be followed. THE ABOVE IS NECESSARY FOR EVERYONES SAFETY.

Failure to follow the above emergency drills will result in a referral and depending upon the severity a suspension may be in order. Any student guilty of setting off an alarm will pay the alarm company to reset the alarm ($200) and a fine of up to $1000 if the Pasadena Fire Department reports to our campus.

Safety Committee

The Safety Committee monitors and assesses current safety plan and procedures and make recommendations and changes as necessary.
